We found out right before Christmas that we had the opportunity to move across the world for a job position Brian was offered. We had always thought this could be an option with his job but... considering the places most people got offered were: Russia, Africa, Iraq and other non desirable locations we never really truly considered going. We always said if the time is right and the location is somewhere we think we could be happy, we would go, but in the back of my mind I never thought this would happen...
He called me early on a Wednesday morning and told me "What do you think about moving to Australia?? Oh and by the way I need to give them an answer today or tomorrow..." I was in complete shock and couldn't think of anything else ALL day... kangaroos, koalas, great barrier reef, boomerangs (that was about all I knew about Australia...) but what kept popping in my mind was "how could we possibly pass this up?!" The only thing holding me back would be complete and utter fear of change! I have always felt very comfortable in my steady but amazing life... even when I left for college I was with my best friends and was only 2.5 hours from my family. After I graduated I moved right back to Houston and have really enjoyed being so close to everyone I love (something my poor husband does not have but luckily he loves my family and friends too and he is only a phone call and a plane ride away from his in Kansas!!) When I seriously thought about this I realized that getting out of my comfort zone would be the best thing for me. I have always dreamed of being the kind of person who would move far away, be adventurous, experience new things and now I will!!!!! ... somehow actually making that decision was harder and much more terrifying than I thought!
After we both got home from work we went to dinner to talk about our life changing decision (we wanted to go to Outback but it was closed... do you think thats a bad sign?? :) oh well..!) After a few drinks and lots of discussion we decided we would be absolutely CRAZY not to take this offer.... We are young, just got married, no children (yet!) and had been planning on taking 2 years for some travel before we started having a family... I truly don't think the timing could be any more perfect!! We told them the next day that we would love to go...
So, here we are 2 weeks after Christmas and we still don't know when we are leaving, how long we will be there, where we will living (we know we will be in Melbourne but I guess will have to stay in a hotel for a few weeks until we find a place to rent), what to pack or how much/little...I have never felt this kind of chaos in my life and I am sure it will only get crazier as the weeks go on. All we know is that we are about to have to most amazing experience and we feel so blessed!
If anyone has ever wanted to go to Australia let me know we would love visitors!!
PS: I'm not really what I would consider a "blogger" but I figured after talking to some friends and family that this would be an easy way for people to see what we were up to and it can also be like my own little diary of our days in Australia... :)
Really excited for you both!! I think you will love the fact that you are "journaling" your trip! It will be a great way to communicate with everyone at one time and you will love looking back at all of your adventures when you get home!!
