Sweet Summertime

So far 2013 has been great!!  We have not gone anywhere or done anything spectacular but I really enjoy just spending time relaxing around the house while Brian works on one of his projects.  We have been up to a few this and thats around Melbourne so thought I would update with a few pictures etc.

New Years Eve this year was spent in the city watching fireworks.  We met up with some friends, brought some drinks and toasted in the New Year without too much extra fuss.  We got a spot where we saw the two firework shows in the city.  It was beautiful seeing them over the river and all the boats on the docks.

Newman getting dirty!
The next day we had a beach BBQ with some friends where we brought our pups, some food, cold beverages and games!  I think the dogs may have had the best time frolicking along the beach together :)

A few weeks later we met up with the same friends for some good old lawn bowling!  Lawn bowling is an Australian sport (mostly for old men) which is nearly the exact game as bocche ball!  It was so fun!  The oldest bowling club in Australia is right down the street from us so we had to try out the original....

We finished up the night having a chicken parma (or "smashing" a chicken parma as Geoff said)  at the local hotel (pub)  So all in all it was a super Aussie night!

I am really thinking we should become members of this club and play weekly :)  Especially when you can bring your own food and they have a bar inside for anyone wanting to cool down!  Anyone want to join us?!!?

(maybe if I practice more I can win a game!)

On January 14 the Australian Open began and we have been consumed with that every evening and weekend.  Brian and I really get into it and watch a good portion of the matches.  (I am not sure I would do this if there were any other options of shows on tv but Im glad there is nothing on so I can get into it!)  Brian got to go with work and had AWESOME seats!  Only a few rows back in the main stadium, the Rod Laver  Arena.  I even saw him on tv after the match was over!  On Tuesday night Brian and I went to "the tennis".  We started off the night listening to a little 80s cover band (with Slash on guitar!) and a sausage :)  We went to the main arena and got to see a great match between the #1 (djokovic) and #5 (berdych) of mens singles.   It was so amazing to get to see them play!  Unfortunately, our seats weren't quite as good as when Brian went but the place is not too big so even the back seats are a great view!  Djokovic won (as we suspected) and we really enjoyed watching the number 1 tennis player do his thing!  So great!

Tomorrow we leave a road trip through South Australia!  Ill update shortly :)
